Some weeks ago i tested two virtual server of the italian Cloud Provider Tophost with two different type of virtual machine.
Now, i’m using Droplet of the Company Digital Ocean with the cheapest Machine (5$ month – 3.86€ ) and I repeate the same test.
This Virtual Machine has Ubuntu 12.04, 512 MB Ram, one virtual Core and 20 GB of space.
The server is located into the farm of Amsterdam (NL).
The executed command was this:
sysbench --test=threads --num-threads=512 run
Test execution summary:
total time: 9.1397s
total number of events: 10000
total time taken by event execution: 4500.9176
approx. 95 percentile: 1703.70ms
events (avg/stddev): 19.5312/7.57
execution time (avg/stddev): 8.7909/0.29
As you can see in the previous post where i talked about Tophost, Droplet is faster about 80% rather TopCloud Server.
The only negative point about this Cloud solution is the ping. If you connect to the server from Italy is approximately 50/60 ms.. but if you have lots of batch work to do into the Cloud I suggest you Droplet! 😀
I hope they will open a new farm soon in Italy 😉
